Petanque growing in popularity in South Lake Tahoe

Tony Lyle won Lake Tahoe Petanque Club’s inaugural competition.
After a tightly fought game, Lyle beat Steve Heslop in the finals of the adult singles class.
In an ironic coincidence Scott Heslop (son of Steve Heslop) defeated Noah Lyle (son of Tony Lyle) to be crowned champion in the junior class. The competition was Sept. 22.

Petanque takes about 20 minutes to learn, is not too physically demanding and can be played on a range of surfaces, except grass, concrete or asphalt. Petanque or boules, as the game is also known, are not the same as bocce ball, but similar. Bocce is of Italian descent and is more of a bowling game. The French game of petanque is more of a tossing game. Bocce balls are rolled palm up whereas petanque balls or boules are thrown palm down to get a backspin. Petanque boules are about the size of an orange.
The club has been meeting weekly during the summer at members’ private homes. The goal is to create a public location for the club to meet and play.
The club is affiliated with the Federation of Petanque USA and the International Federation of Petanque and Jeu Provencal (FIPJP). The Lake Tahoe Petanque Club is an informal, casual club and welcomes players of all abilities, ages and nationalities. For more information visit the club website.

Heart Of Texas (HOT) Petanque Club Dedicates New Courts

taken from the HOT Petanque Club Blog...

What a day!  Paggi Square is now officially open for Petanque.  Yehhaaa!  Over a couple hundred people came for the opening from 10 am to noon on Saturday June first.   A big thank you to Mayor Lee Leffingwell who gave a speech about supporting  the game of Petanque and the new  fabulous courts at Paggi Square.   He also gave us the blessing by throwing a few balls.  Many kids and families got to learn the game.  Thank you to all the HOT teachers and thank you for your patience teaching  all of  those people. We now have some Olympic courts as the Mayor  mentioned it and  soon we  will put a schedule together to keep on  teaching  the community. A+ Love Arsene

Lamorinda Pétanque - 2013 Season Opener **UPDATED**

NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS-NEWS - NEWS - NEWS

Hello Petanquers

We need to clear up some confusion about the Format for the Sunday 17 March Tournament at Lamorinda.
The Bay Area and Beyond Calendar says it is going to be a Select Doubles and The Announcement says Melee Doubles.

Bit of a snafu there, but easily resolved;
If you come with a partner you will play with that partner.
If you come alone, team up on the day with someone who comes alone.

And, most importantly: We will have a porta-potty on site.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our Season Opener.
