La Pétanque Marinière: 2016

WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL BLOG for La Pétanque Marinière in San Rafael, California. LPM has been an active Marin pétanque club since 1972 and affiliated with the Fédération of Pétanque USA, since 1975. We welcome people of all abilities, ages and nationalities to come and enjoy pétanque with us.

The Pierre Joske Courts are located on Civic Center drive in San Rafael. (click for directions). Casual games are played every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from about 1 pm. Tournament play is usually held on the second Sunday of every month.

If you would like to play but haven't any boules, please contact our President, Christine Cragg. They can bring some for you to use, as well as introduce you to the basic skills and techniques of pétanque. In addition, if you are looking to purchase boules but are unsure as to which size and weight are right for you, we have a range of different examples from which to choose.

If you can not, let me know and I will shred your check (or return it voided if you wish).

Note: I know this falls on the rain date for Sacramento's rescheduled 6Ball Challenge - but it is the only weekend we can pull it off. All we can do is hope for a beautiful, sunny weekend.

VOMPC - Bastille Day Celebration

This is it—the VOMPC Grand Concours de Pétanque! It’s our very popular Bastille Day celebration, taking place on SUNDAY, JULY 17th. Ravenswood Winery is our generous sponsor, and we are very grateful!

Register for the casual melée tournament by 10am. Cost is $10 per player. You do not need to make a reservation to play in the tournament.

The gourmet lunch will be catered by Chef Ed Metcalfe of Shiso Restaurant. YOU MUST MAKE A LUNCH RESERVATION, by calling the VOMPC Hotline at 707-343-9465. This year we can only accommodate 100 people for lunch, so make your reservation on the Hotline soon. Reservations end when we reach 100, or on July 13th at noon, whichever happens first. It will most likely sell out before 7/13. Cost is $20 per person. DO NOT reply to this email for reservations! If your lunch reservations change, please call us again on the hotline right away, so we can try to accommodate others.

Sonoma Wine Country Games - 2016

Petanque will again be included in the Wine Country Games to be held on Saturday, June 11th, at the Valley of the Moon Petanque Club. This is a fundraiser for the Council on Aging/Meals on Wheels and is truly worth your entry. Please register at www.winecountrygames.com You must be at least 50 years young to enter.

The event is Select Doubles. You register for the Wine Country Games, and then you can enter as many venues as you can handle! One participant entered 5 sporting events! Way to go, Jean-Claude Etallaz! Antoine Lofaro and I will be defending our 2015 title!

First Prize, along with your Wine Country Games medal, is $50 Gift Certificate from The Girl and The Fig (for both participants!), a bottle of Ricard, and a bottle of wine! That's definitely worth more than your entry fee. Last year everyone walked away with something! This year the prizes again will go deep.
