WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL BLOG for La Pétanque Marinière in San Rafael, California. LPM has been an active Marin pétanque club since 1972 and affiliated with the Fédération of Pétanque USA, since 1975. We welcome people of all abilities, ages and nationalities to come and enjoy pétanque with us.

The Pierre Joske Courts are located on Civic Center drive in San Rafael. (click for directions). Casual games are played every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from about 1 pm. Tournament play is usually held on the second Sunday of every month.

Please consult the links on the sidebar to the right for more information on clubs in the bay area, nationally and world wide.

If you would like to play but haven't any boules, please contact our President, Christine Cragg, or Ken Lee. They can bring some for you to use, as well as introduce you to the basic skills and techniques of pétanque. In addition, if you are looking to purchase boules but are unsure as to which size and weight are right for you, we have a range of different examples from which to choose.

Valley Of The Moon Petanque - Oktoberfest

Dear VOMPC Members and Friends,
I hope this email finds most of you in continued safety and perhaps by now, in your own homes with your families.
Due to the ongoing fires and the very unhealthy air quality, the Board has decided to postpone this Sunday's Oktoberfest tournament. We are hoping to reschedule it to next month, a "Novemberfest," of sorts. The Board will be meeting this Thursday and a rescheduled date will be decided and announced to you by the end of this week.
Looking forward to seeing all of you soon on the pétanque courts in our beautiful hometown.

A message from Philippe Boets about The 2017 Petanque America Open and the Petanque America business.

Hello all!
The PA Open:
I'm getting a lot of calls about the Open this year.
Our local Tourist Office (AICVB) has agreed to take over the overall organization. The competition proper will be run by Ernesto Santos & Xavier Thibaud, who did a great job last year as well. .
Dates are Nov 10/11/12 and registration starts on May 1st, at 10amET.
This means that - for the very first time - I can be there and welcome you all without having to stress out over the logistics!
PA business
Some of you also know that, after 26 years (OMG, has it been thàt long, no wonder!), I want to slow down with the "24/7/365 petanque".
As of May 1st, I will be joined by Joel Woodlief, who will gradually take over the business and make sure equipment remains readily available, right here in America, from Amelia Island. Joel is new to petanque, but has lots of experience in business and marketing, and I am confident he will take very good care of the petanque community.
We will continue to promote:
- the inexpensive, chrome sets, for beginners on a budget, for when lots of boules are needed, to lend out, etc...
- Obut competition boules (with the drop of the Euro, no more need to import from elsewhere as I did before).
- the new, intermediate, Obut stainless steel leisure boules. They are great value for money, in 8 designs, at $64 per set of 3. More than ever, I believe the focus for beginners should be on "good quality, middle of the road", instead of "only official boules". One of the reasons why our Amelia Island club grew so fast, and steadfastly remains among the top clubs in numbers, is that we never worry about "regulation" boules. The easier it is to get newcomers started, the better.
And we remain always open to suggestions for new, complementary items.
I sincerely appreciate your support over all these years and look forward to see many of you here in November!
PS: feel free to pass this message along to your club members.

Portland Pétanque - 2017 Rose City Open

The Rose City Open (RCO) registration is now open. And an early bird discount on the fee is being offered. We have already received a number of registrations from last year's participants. And we are hoping to make this year's tournament an even greater success.

 * Play * Eat * Celebrate *
Bring a friend or anyone who might be interested in playing pétanque. We have some extra boules.
Note: This is not a tournament, just friendly play.
Hopefully there will be tournaments coming later this year as we get organized.
See you there!

LPM - Pierre Joske Courts Improvement Project

LPM has a contract with The County of Marin to use the park.
The County maintenance crews have started cleaning the courts.
The County is putting out a bid for contractors to do the first part of the project which will be the fencing.
LPM needs to raise $30,000 for the first phase. We have all enjoyed many hours of friendship, sport, and picnics on our pétanque courts and hope you will consider to do what you can, by donating to the project. We received our first donation of $5000 from Charlie Davantes. Thank you!!!! You don’t have to give that much, unless you can, then please do! Everything is appreciated and will help make this happen. Please fill out the donation sheet and send it back as soon as possible.  The donation is tax deductible.
