Lamorinda Pétanque - 2013 Season Opener **UPDATED**

NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS - NEWS-NEWS - NEWS - NEWS

Hello Petanquers

We need to clear up some confusion about the Format for the Sunday 17 March Tournament at Lamorinda.
The Bay Area and Beyond Calendar says it is going to be a Select Doubles and The Announcement says Melee Doubles.

Bit of a snafu there, but easily resolved;
If you come with a partner you will play with that partner.
If you come alone, team up on the day with someone who comes alone.

And, most importantly: We will have a porta-potty on site.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our Season Opener.

Pétanque Partner Finder

Petanque Partner Finder is a facility that connects petanque players looking for partners for tournament play. This is not included automatically with the posting of upcoming tournament information.
This site is where you will find posted information about upcoming FPUSA National and Regional Tournamentsas well as Open Tournaments. You will find Tournament Entry Forms, and if the information has been provided, accommodation and hospitality information. If a club has requested Partner Finder, you will find that as well.

Look for Pétanque Partner Finder in the LPM sidebar under NEXT TOURNAMENT.

Pétanque 600 Meters Underground!

American Pétanque Association

About the APA

The American Petanque Association (APA) is an organization devoted to promoting petanque, and raising public awareness of petanque, in the USA.
To read about the vision that animates the APA, seehttp://americanpetanque.wordpress.com/about-vision/.
To read about the action plan that the APA has for implementing its mission statement, seehttp://americanpetanque.wordpress.com/action-plan/.

Mission Statement

The APA is not a rule-setting body; it does not write the rules for petanque. It does not organize games. It does not sponsor tournaments.
The APA has a three-fold mission.
To promote awareness of petanque on the part of the American public.
That is the purpose of the American Petanque Association web site at http://americanpetanque.wordpress.com.
To make information about the game of petanque easily available to people living in the USA.
That is the purpose of the About Petanque web site athttp://petanque.wordpress.com.
To help those wishing to play petanque in the USA to find petanque clubs, other petanque players, and playing locations (terrains).

LPM Cleanup Day

Hi All,

As anyone who has been to the LPM Courts lately knows, our grass is growing heartily!  And, since lawn is the one surface on which we do not play petanque, then as you will surmise, it must be removed.

Claudie and I will be at the courts this coming Wednesday, February 13, with a couple of hired workers who will be doing much of the heavier work.

But many hands make for light work and it would be great if some of you could give even a little time to the project.

Any time between 10:00 - Noon - we will likely go later, but for sure, we will be there until 1PM.

If you have a rake, please bring it.  If you do not, bring your gloves and we will provide a rake.

Thanks in advance, for any help you might be able to contribute.

And thanks to those who came to play in our first tournament of the season.  It was a beautiful day and lots of fun!

Christine

Lake Sonoma Tournament

The Lake Tournament, akThe George Pipal Memorial...

True to form, this event is being planned, confirmed, and announced on a somewhat last-minute basis. Tradition is strong.

As of this writing, the tentative and almost firm date is Sunday, February 16th. Please make a mental note and prepare to convert that to a calendar notation within the next day or so.

This has been played at a variety of locations over the years, the most recent being a beautiful overlook parking lot at Lake Sonoma. In all likelihood, that will be the case for 2013. It is a fun day of boules and pot luck food--relatively low-key in preparation for the tournament season. We will put out a short history with the "official" announcement. Stay Tuned.

*******************************

Dan Feaster & Nan Walter, braved the winter cold and horrendous traffic on Hwy 1/101 to make the drive to Williams, OR in order to experience the "Winter Tournament" held by the Rogue Bouligans Petanque Club. A great time was had during the pre-tournament warmup play on the Friday evening preceding the Saturday event, and the tournament itself was a blast. Here's a link to the Bouligan's FPUSA SmugMug page, with two sets of photos. By the way, Nan's team won.

Three Reasons to Cross the Bay Bridge

What to do on an average, ho-hum weekend in the Bay? Head east for a quick game of petanque, a knock-your-socks-off Mexican meal, and a 21st century take on Hamlet, under the stars.
